The Center for Democracy and the Constitution, the organizational sponsor of Climate Chronicles, is a non-profit that works on issues of local democracy and human rights.  We are now turning to global warming as a driver for positive change, as it focuses our attention to pressing root cause questions that get to heart of our cultural malaise: Who brought us this growing climate crisis, and for whose benefit? How did it happen, and why do we continue along this path?

Over the past few years I’ve watched with increasing frustration as the climate realities reported by scientists as well as our own experience with extreme weather events have been virtually ignored by politicians and the media. Since the release of “An Inconvenient Truth” the public discussion of global warming has jumped to a new level, but for many reasons – economic, political, cultural – our conversation still falls far short of meeting the demands posed by global warming.

Therein lies purpose of this weblog: to report the latest developments on the climate front, to discuss their significance in our lives, and to challenge us all to take the difficult but necessary steps to preserve civilization and perhaps even human life on earth. The situation we face is truly that serious, and if we don’t face it honestly we can’t possibly takes the necessary steps to rein in the climate chaos we have caused.
